New Product Features, Fixes and Enhancements

FirstClass Synchronization Services 9.1 introduces support of the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol for the bi-directional syncing of calendars, tasks, and contacts to mobile devices. EAS 2.5, 12.0, and 12.1 protocol versions are supported.

For the management of lost or stolen devices, ActiveSync Remote Wipe is supported. This features permits users to force a device (that also support Remote Wipe) to reset/delete its contents. Newer FirstClass clients will include an updated Preferences form with a “Wipe device” checkbox to invoke this. Remote Wipe can also be set for a user by the system administrator via FirstClass scripting:

PUT PREFERENCES <userid> <checkbox fieldid> 6 1

where <userid> is the system assigned FirstClass userid and <checkbox fieldid> is:
  • 4005 for device 1
  • 4015 for device 2
  • 4025 for device 3
  • 4035 for device 4
To uncheck the Wipe device checkbox:
PUT PREFERENCES <userid> <checkbox fieldid> 6 0

In addition, the overall performance of Synchronization Services and support for the SyncML protocol has been improved.

  • Contacts with same name created on device no longer appear as a single contact on FirstClass.
  • Contact birthdays are now checked for equality.
  • The Contact URL field is now synced properly.
  • Events are now created in the client time zone, rather than the server’s.
  • Event type checking has been relaxed to allow document event types to sync.
  • The next sync time has been adjusted to be the start time of the current sync, removing the possibility of items “under change” to not to be picked up for updates.
  • Fixed issue where an INET CLI2 bug caused Synchronization Services to crash.
  • Midnight log rollover now prints config info and the date/time when Synchronization Services started.
  • The erroneous registration of a fifth device is no longer possible.
  • SyncML 1.2 devinfo block encoding has been corrected.
  • SyncML data encoding for vCal and vCard mime content will initially use the character set defined in the WBXML header. If the client sends the data first subsequent data encoding will use the character set defined in the vCard or vCal mime content.
  • SyncML event/task note content size has been truncated to half the maximum allowed message size. This prevents repetitive Slow syncs if a single item cannot fit into one message.
  • SyncML Slow sync requirements have been relaxed. SyncML Slow sync now done only when:
  • Preference form set to Slow.
  • Sent item to device is pending a MAP of syncID. (i.e. device did not reply with a MAP).
  • Device requests a Slow sync.
All other abnormal conditions cause Synchronization Services to set the next sync as Refresh From Server.
