FirstClass 7.1 Palm Sync™ SP1 Release Notes
Version 1.0
March 2, 2004
Description
FirstClass Palm Sync supports palmOne™ connected organizers
(organizers, handhelds, or devices), and other 100% Palm OS®
compatible devices running Palm OS 3.1 or higher and using
Palm Desktop 4.0 or higher. Using the Palm HotSync® Manager
4.0 or higher (Windows) or Palm HotSync Manager 3.0 or higher
(Mac OS), you can bi-directionally synchronize your address
entries and calendar entries, mail, to do list, and memo pad
between your Palm OS compatible device and your FirstClass
server.
FirstClass 7.1 Palm Sync SP1 for Windows, Mac OS, and Mac OS X
is a recommended update for all FirstClass 7.1 installations
that use Palm OS compatible devices. The major enhancement
introduced is the support of Palm OS 5. The Palm Sync feature
is provided as software conduits. The conduits are responsible
for synchronizing the Palm OS compatible device and your
FirstClass server.
The new conduit versions are:
• Palm Conduits V7.143 for Windows
• Palm Conduits V7.143 for Mac OS
• Palm Conduits V7.143 for Mac OS X
System Requirements
Windows Platform
• Windows 95 or later, Windows XP, Windows 2000
• 64 MB or higher of RAM
• 60 MB of available hard disk
Mac OS Platform
• Mac OS 9.1 or later
• 12 MB of available RAM
• 25 MB of available hard disk
Mac OS X Platform
• Mac OS X 10.1.2 or later
• 12 MB of available RAM
• 25 MB of available hard disk
Installation Instructions
To use your Palm OS compatible device with FirstClass, the
Palm Desktop for either Windows, Mac OS, or Mac OS X must
first be installed. This also installs the HotSync Manager.
After installing the new Desktop, move the default conduits
into a backup directory.
To install the conduits after downloading them from FCOL or
the Web:
Windows Platform
• Run FirstClass® Conduits.exe, and follow the
onscreen instructions.
• The conduits are installed into the Palm directory.
Mac OS Platform
• Run Install FirstClass® Conduits, and follow the
onscreen instructions.
• The conduits are installed in System Folder:Application
Support:Palm HotSync:Conduits.
Mac OS X Platform
• Run Install FirstClass®Conduits.dmg, and follow the
onscreen instructions.
• The conduits are installed in
Library:ApplicationSupport:Palm HotSync:Conduits.
Features and Fixes
• The Palm conduits now support Palm OS 5 devices.
• The Installer now permits the user to select which conduits
(Mail, Memo, To Do List, Address Book, Date Book) are to be
installed.
• The Windows platform Installer is now compatible with the
palmOne Tungstenä E and Tungsten T3 installations.
• Synchronized FirstClass mail will now be removed by Trash
Collection when the message is deleted.
• Deleted items found in the user’s MailBox will no longer
result in the Mail conduit reporting the error "Mail Conduit
failed (error = #16406)".
• Debug logging has been added to the conduits. A logging
level of 0 to 9 may be specified in the FCSetup.prc. All
logging is written to the HotSync.log on the Desktop. Caution:
using logging levels greater than 1 will slow synchronization
and increase the size of the HotSync.log file considerably.
Known Limitations and Issues
• The Tungsten T3, Tungsten E, and other Palm OS 5 devices,
include new applications (Contacts, Calendar, Memos, and
Tasks) that replace the previous standard applications
(Address Book, Date Book, Memo Pad and To Do List). The
conduits synchronize with the new applications, but new fields
not found in the old applications will not be synchronized.
• Memos larger than the maximum allowable size (4k) are not
synchronized.
• When an event is modified within a recurring event on the
connected organizer, the recurring event is “split up” into
multiple records on the connected organizer. On the next
synchronization, some FirstClass calendar attributes of that
event (“Color”, “Show time as”, and some “Sensitivitiy”
selections - personal and company) are not carried forward in
the new split event that results in FirstClass.
• The palmOne Treo™ 300 may not operate properly with the
FirstClass Date Book conduit.
• On the Windows platform, if FirstClass Palm Sync is
uninstalled, the Palm Desktop software will need to be
re-installed in order to use it.
